​Parentzonescotland.com is a new website to help parents and carers support their child’s learning. ​The content on the previous Parentzone website has been updated, developed and reviewed.​ Please pass on details of the Parentzone Scotland website to the parents and carers you work with. Parentzone Scotland has new and updated content on:

  • Learning in Scotland – information about the curriculum from early years to beyond school;
  • Learning at home – helpful hints and tips on how parents and carers can support their children’s learning at home including literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing, and science;
  • Additional support needs – identifying needs, planning support and useful information about specific additional support needs;
  • Getting involved – how to get more involved in your child’s school, Parent Councils and information from the National Parent Forum of Scotland;
  • My School – contact details for every primary, secondary and special school in Scotland, information on school awards, links to school websites;
  • Improved navigation and search function; and
  • Links to other relevant websites.

Behaviour Code

The Pupil Council have been busy over the last few weeks working with some parents and members of staff to develop a school behaviour code.

This was introduced to all of the children at an assembly this morning and a copy of the work which was done is attached for your information.

The aim was to make the behaviour we wish to see at Craighill Primary and the types of behaviour which are not acceptable clear to everyone. The group have also worked to identify what the rewards and sanctions will be.

Also attached is a copy of the letters which will be sent home to inform you of your child’s behaviour. On the back of the “Red Letter” is a behaviour report which will be completed by the child in school. As we know sometimes the story which is told at home does not match what actually happened as children do not want to get into further trouble. However, by completing the report, pupils are encouraged to accept responsibility for their behaviour and for trying to ensure this behaviour is not repeated.

If your child brings home a letter regarding their behaviour it is important that you complete and return the slip at the bottom of the page to let us know that you have received the letter.

I would like to thank the Pupil Council and the group of parents who supported them in developing this. I hope that pupils, parents and staff can work together to promote positive behaviour at Craighill.

Young Chef

Fresh One Productions is on a nationwide hunt to find Britain’s most talented young chefs (aged 9-11) for a new television cookery series, so if you know anyone up for the challenge then please see the forms below for more info, and drop us an email if you have any further questions! youngchef@freshone.tv

Fresh One Productions are making a brand new cookery programme for children, with healthy eating at its core. We are looking for 9-11 year old children from schools all over the UK to apply for the show who have a big passion for food!  We are hoping to do a day of auditions in Scotland, so really keen to reach as many children as possible to give all those budding young chefs and cooks a chance to apply. With schools now closed for half term it would be a huge boost if you are able to help us spread the word utilising your fantastic network at Food For Life Scotland

We have further information on this in school if anyone is interested.

Bikeability Volunteer Training

Further to the post on 30th January about this training I have found out that volunteers need only participate in one day of training.

The training will take place on 31st March, 1st, 15th and 22nd April from 9.30am – 2.30pm. Venues have yet to be decided.

Names were to be put forward by 13th February but if anyone is interested we could still try to get them a place on the training. Please get in touch if you are interested.

Footballs on the School Roof

I am afraid that janitors and other school staff are not allowed onto the school roof for health and safty reasons. Unfortunately this means that footballs etc which are accidentally kicked onto the roof cannot be returned. I know that this will cause frustration so I would urge pupils not to bring expensive balls into school just in case these are lost.
